Welcome to David Dean's Homepage

NAC_motherpre_0352 I teach history at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada where I am Professor of History and Co-Director of the Carleton Centre for Public History. My research interests are wide-ranging and include historical performances in theatre, film, and historic sites; museums and public memory; and political culture, drama, and society in Elizabethan England. I have published studies on law making, parliament, localities, and the lottery in Elizabethan England; on controversies in national museums; and on theatrical and filmic representations of the past. As well as research, teaching, and supervising, I actively collaborate with museums and with theatre amateurs and professionals imagining the past on stage.
